About Us

Who are we and what are our aims?
Black & Minority Ethnic Carers' Support Service (BMECSS) is an innovative independent community based service. We aim to provide a culturally appropriate, fully accessible service to all BME
Carers in Haringey and Enfield irrespective of their race, ethnicity, culture, religion, gender, age and sexuality.
BMECSS believes
We that carers play a vital role in supporting a large number of ill, disabled, elderly people,
those suffering from mental health, learning difficulties, or substance misuse in their own homes. Without their efforts many more people would have to be
accommodated in institutional care or provided with a high level of statutory service.
Carers provide a positive contribution to society and should be treated with respect and dignity.
Who Are Carers?
Carers are people who look after a relative or a friend who; because of disability, learning difficulties, ill health, mental
health and substance misuse or the effects of age need help and support. They are unpaid.
Eligibility of Criteria
Carers must live in London in the borough of Haringey and Enfield;
Carers must provide at least 7 hours of care per week;
Carers provide short term intensive/care support e.g. Like support provided by mental health carers, HIV/AIDS carers and sickle cell Thalassemia.
The Sitter service
We aim to provide a culturally appropriate home based sitter service to Black & Minority Ethnic
carers. If you are a carer or know of a carer who would like to take a break from caring, please contact us to discuss your needs
and the service. An initial assessment meeting will be arranged as soon as possible.
Who is a Sitter?
Sitters are from BME communities. They are recognized by us and are on our register. All the sitters are appropriately trained.
